In order to reduce internal complexity a focus that has gained critical mass can be separated from the rest as an independent [[project]] or [[venture]]. This is different from [[forking]] because the ''spinoff'' process splits an organization into two or more organizations that have very different focus (can be products or services). [[Forking]] creates two or more organizations that are focused on very similar deliverable, that can be considered versions of each others.
