Agents are individual entities that have the ability to plan and take actions. Agents can be individual humans, software acting on behalf of an individual or group (e.g., an Ethereum client), or a group of multiple agents (an organization, including communities and networks).

An agent operates within an OVN.

In REA or NRP-CAS language we can say that resources are used in events by agents.

In an OVN, agents that contribute to processes are affiliates.

NOTE: In a p2p context it is not advised to reduce agents or affiliates to users, as it is used in discussions about online centralized platforms such as Facebook or Twitter. The difference is that users in that context have no control over the platform.
