Role of trust in value networks.

Trust can be placed in an agent - it is related to the ability to predict future actions of an agent, which leads to relations of collaboration or cooperation, to the creation of an environment conducive to transactions, including collaboration. In this case, we can model trust using game theory of repeated interactions. It is related to reputation, which is a quality based on past behavior, requiring information about the past about the agent. Typology of Trust

  • Deterrence Trust = The Threat of being punished or in some other way harmed results in trust. The Risk of potential sanctions explains trust.
  • Calculus Trust = Trust is present because the alternative is more costly
  • Reciprocity Trust = Trust exists because if one of party trusts, the other is also likely to trust
  • Knowledge Trust = Trust is present since the Trusteès behaviour is quite predictable. Experience from past interactions results in trust.
  • Cognitive trust = The Trustee is reliable and dependent upon the Trustor, whereupon Trust follows.
  • Identification Trust = Empathy and identification with each other’s desires explains trust.
  • Moralistic Trust= Ethical principles and shared values result in trust.
  • Affect Trust = Trust is explained by social similarity and insights into each other's motives, or, by the feelings present between two parties.
  • Goodwill Trust = A belief in the goodwill of the partner explains trust.
