Things flow in nature. In some "places" stuff slows down or even stagnates. We call these places pools of accumulation. Time is also an important parameter in nature, since processes happen in time, Thus, slowing down or stagnating translates into availability. In other words, some processes can benefit from stuff if it is available for a specific duration that corresponds with the natural time of the process.

Example: rivers carry soil nutrients that can benefit plants, Plants do not grow in places where the water flows rapidly, because the plant cannot easily capture nutrients from a rapid stream. But rivers can slow down in some places and sediments accumulate. This is where we find plants thriving and spanning ecosystems.

Organizations can also be seen as processes and flows of resources. Accumulation mechanisms must be present to deposit stuff that can "feed" processes whenever they occur. For example, documentation is an accumulation mechanism. It uses capturing mechanisms: work methodologies that require documentation, documentation tools (video, sound recording, pictures, text editors) and storage (sound, video and photo repositories). In the context of open enterprises/ventures these capturing mechanisms become collaborative, ex. Google docs for capturing information as text, YouTube for storing and sharing videos.
